Collection: Miriam Fernández (Mevaki)

For this series of covers for an imaginary magazine, which pays homage to the mythical “The New Yorker”, Mevaki made a colorful portrait of Barcelona, ​​in which cars caricatured as beasts with sharp teeth and pedestrians reminiscent of automata appear. "I wanted to reflect on the human ego," he says. “My cover for 'The Barcelonan' is an invitation to reflect on our relationships, on our city and the place from which we build our lives” , he says.

Paint on cats, women or scenes of daily life, in Mevaki's work there is a constant, he tries to transform into images that universe that is not seen, but that people feel and end up transforming the outside world. “My work is linked to my fascination with metaphysics and quantum physics. I like to illustrate that connection between reality and fantasy” , he explains. Like other artists, Mevaki understands art as a way to transform her world, to listen to herself and get closer to beauty. “I need to express my emotions through paint and brush strokes. I have to confess that what I really like is a palette full of acrylic and smudge free. Crazy," he admits. Although he speaks of spontaneity, behind his work there is technique, knowledge and experience. His father was a painter and comic book collector. "Since I was little I have had access to a lot of graphic work," she says. She studied at two art schools and when she quit her job as a graphic designer to get her hands dirty again and smell paint, it took her a year and a half to figure out what she wanted to do.

With Mevaki, Míriam Fernández, in addition to carrying out projects for the press and for products, her specialization, invites people to explore their imagination together in order to make it tangible and provoke changes.

It's simple. As the chef, Martín Berasategui, says, “we are happy where we are most comfortable” . And Míriam Fernández is happy with Mevaki, illustrating emotions, playing with bright colors and painting with mixed techniques -graphite pencil, acrylics, Chinese inks, markers-. “I like to mix textures, digital techniques and universes that have nothing to do with it” , he adds.
