Edwardo Grandillo

Born in Montevideo in 1961.

He began his painting studies at the Instituto Ateneo de Montevideo. And in 1983 he entered the sculpture workshop of the "Pedro Figari" School of Arts and Crafts, run by the sculptress Nimar Salmini. In 1987 he entered the National School of Fine Arts to train as a plastic creator.

He currently resides in Madrid where he has his atelier and alternates with the city of Barcelona where he exhibits his work curated by "The Club Art" who have created a circuit that combines art, leisure and gastronomy, thus bringing art closer to society. people in a more fluid way and without preconceptions, far from the rigid formality of the Galleries.

This series is the result of the admiration he feels for the Valencian painter Juan Genovés, "I have admired his work since I discovered it a little before "El Abrazo" (iconic work par excellence)", the artist confesses. After his death, and after the number of tributes and mentions that we were told about his artistic legacy, he felt the urge to play on the canvas with those tiny characters, those dancing specks that blend into the crowd, generating movement and rhythm with a plasticity that captivates the viewer.

He confesses to us that this first work that he did as an intimate tribute to leave in a corner of his studio generated the need to continue investigating that nourished universe of " silent crowds " that binary and simple world, that world of ones and zeros that it allows us to create something more complex. Just as in music, sound and silence coexist to create harmony, here matter and space interact to create a massive and rhythmic movement without the viewer losing attention on each individual with the intention of discovering himself in the crowd.
